National Gwacheon science Museum with Kids
Planning a family day out near Seoul? If you’re looking for an indoor destination that’s fun, educational, and perfect for both rainy days and hot summer weather, the National Gwacheon Science Museum should definitely be on your list.
We visited with our preschool-aged children, expecting to spend just a few hours. Instead, we quickly realized that even an entire day wasn’t enough to explore everything.

Why We Recommend It
Many science museums focus on reading information panels, but this one is completely different.
Children are encouraged to touch, build, experiment, and explore through hands-on activities.
We arrived right when the museum opened, thinking we would finish in a couple of hours.
Instead, we spent almost the entire morning exploring only the first floor.
Our children wanted to try every single exhibit, and honestly, we found ourselves just as fascinated as they were.
It felt less like visiting a museum and more like spending the day in one giant interactive playground where science comes to life.
Best Exhibits by Floor
First Floor – Interactive Science Exploration
The first floor quickly became our favorite.
The Science Exploration Hall is packed with interactive exhibits where children can press buttons, solve simple science challenges, and discover how everyday science works through play.
This area alone easily kept our family busy for several hours.

Second Floor – Space, Aviation and Future Technology
The second floor focuses on space exploration, aviation, and future technology.
One of our favorite experiences was a space-themed attraction that made us feel like we were traveling through space.
Even as adults, we had a great time.
After walking around such a large museum, sitting down for one of the immersive presentations was also a nice break!
Outdoor Areas
If the weather is pleasant, don’t miss the outdoor science exhibits and playground.
However, even if you stay indoors all day, there’s still more than enough to keep children entertained.

Don’t Miss the Children’s Experience Hall
If you’re visiting with preschoolers, be sure to check out the Children’s Experience Hall.
This area requires advance online reservation.
Reservations open three days before your visit, and weekend slots fill up very quickly, especially during school holidays.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get a reservation on our visit, but it’s definitely at the top of our list next time.
Check the Educational Programs Before You Visit
One thing that surprised us after browsing the museum’s website was the number of educational programs available.
There are science workshops, hands-on experiments, maker activities, and exhibition-related classes throughout the year.
Some programs are designed for elementary school students, while others welcome younger children.
If you’re planning your visit, we highly recommend checking the museum’s website in advance and booking any activities that interest your family.
We’ve learned that a little planning can make a huge difference when visiting popular attractions in Korea.
Food Court Tips
The museum has a convenient food court, but it becomes extremely busy around lunchtime.
We recommend eating slightly before noon or waiting until after the main lunch rush if your children can manage.
Otherwise, you may find yourself waiting quite a while for both a table and your food.

The National Gwacheon Science Museum is one of the best indoor family attractions near Seoul.
Whether you’re visiting on a rainy day, escaping the summer heat, or simply looking for an educational experience that children genuinely enjoy, this museum offers something for every age.
Our preschoolers loved the interactive exhibits, and we can already tell that we’ll be back when they’re older to enjoy even more of the educational programs.
