If you’re living in Seoul with kids — or visiting Korea in spring —
there’s a small but surprisingly fun local festival you might want to check out.
It’s not one of the huge, famous festivals.
But that’s actually what makes it better for families.
” Seoul Yi Sun-sin Festival 2026″
🎉 What is the Seoul Yi Sun-sin Festival?
The Seoul Yi Sun-sin Festival is a one-day cultural event held in Jung-gu, central Seoul.
It celebrates Yi Sun-sin, one of the most respected historical figures in Korea.
This area is known as his birthplace,
which is why the festival is held here.
But interestingly, this is not a formal or serious historical event.
👉 The concept is closer to a “birthday-themed street festival”
with performances, food, and interactive activities.
📍 Event Details

- Date: April 25, 2026
- Time: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Location: Jung-gu (near Myeongbo Art Hall intersection)
- Entry: Free
The streets will be turned into a car-free zone,
which makes it much safer and more comfortable for families with children.
👀 What Makes This Festival Special?
Unlike large traditional festivals,
this one is designed to be interactive and easy to explore.
You don’t just watch —
you actually participate.
🎨 Things to Do with Kids
This is the highlight if you’re visiting with children.
- Build a turtle ship (a famous Korean warship)
- Make a traditional Korean hat (gat)
- Create simple pop-up books
- Try traditional Korean games
👉 These activities are simple, hands-on,
and great for younger kids (especially under 10).
🎭 Performances & Street Shows

Throughout the day, you’ll see:
- Navy band performances
- Cultural shows
- Street performances and parades
It’s not overwhelming,
but there’s always something happening.
🍴 Food & Local Market
You’ll also find plenty of food and small vendors.
- Korean street food
- Desserts and snacks
- Small handmade goods
👉 It feels like a mix of a food market + street festival
💡 Tips for Visiting (Important)
If you’re planning to go, timing matters more than anything.
👉 Here’s a simple strategy:
- Arrive early (around noon)
- Do kids activities first (they get crowded fast)
- Grab food before peak lunch time
- Leave before it gets too packed
👉 This is especially important if you have young kids or a stroller.
🚇 How to Get There
The festival takes place in central Seoul,
so it’s very easy to access by public transportation.
The closest areas are:
- Euljiro area
- Myeong-dong
- Chungmuro
👉 If you’re staying in central Seoul,
it’s a quick and easy visit.
🤔 Is It Worth It?
If you’re expecting a huge cultural festival — maybe not.
But if you want:
- A relaxed local experience
- A kid-friendly activity
- A short, fun outing in Seoul
👉 then yes, it’s definitely worth visiting.
🧡 Final Thoughts
This festival is simple, playful, and easy to enjoy.
It’s not too big, not too crowded (if you go early),
and perfect for families who want a light cultural experience.
👉 I’ll be visiting with my kids,
and I’ll share a full review afterward!
Also happening in Seoul during the same period,
there is a traditional palace festival across major royal palaces.
I’ve put together a simple guide here
👇 I will post, soon!
