Spring in Seoul is one of the best times to go out with kids.
Even with occasional fine dust,
it’s honestly hard to stay indoors when the weather feels this good.
So while looking for a kid-friendly place near the Han River,
we decided to visit Seoul Battleship Park in Mangwon.
At first, I didn’t expect much.
But after visiting, it turned out to be one of those places that are
👉 quietly impressive, especially for families with young children.
🚢 What is Seoul Battleship Park?

Seoul Battleship Park is an interactive museum built around real retired naval ships.
The main ship, Seoul,
was an actual destroyer used by the Korean Navy in the 1980s.
Today, it’s permanently docked at Mangwon Hangang Park
and open to the public.
👉 In simple terms,
this is a place where you can walk inside a real warship—
something most kids (and honestly adults too) don’t get to experience often.
📍 Location & Basic Info
- Location: Mangwon Hangang Park, Seoul
- Address: 407 Maponaru-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul
- Hours: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Last entry 6:00 PM)
- Closed: Mondays
Because it’s located inside the Han River park,
you can easily combine it with a walk, bike ride, or picnic.
👉 If you’re planning a full day out,
this area works really well for families.
🚗 Parking Tips
Parking is available at Mangwon Hangang Park.
- KRW 1,000 (first 30 minutes)
- KRW 200 per additional 10 minutes
Weekends can get quite busy,
so arriving early is a smart move—especially with kids.
💰 Admission Fee
- Adults: KRW 3,000
- Teens: KRW 2,000
- Children: KRW 1,000
- Preschoolers: Free
For what you get,
the price feels more than reasonable.
🧭 What to See (Main Attractions)
There are several areas to explore inside the park:
1. The Destroyer “Seoul”
You can explore:
- The bridge (control room)
- Crew living spaces
- Engine sections
It gives a surprisingly realistic look into naval life.
2. Chamsuri Patrol Boat
Smaller and easier to explore—
often more fun for younger kids.
3. Submarine Experience
A highlight for many children.
The narrow space and layout
make it feel like a real adventure.
4. Indoor Exhibition Hall
Includes:
- Naval history
- Interactive displays
- Educational content
👉 One thing that stood out to me:
a large portion of the experience is indoors.
This makes it a great option
even on days with bad air quality.
🎨 Kids Programs & Reservations

One of the biggest advantages of Seoul Battleship Park
is its well-organized kids programs.
- Picture book sessions
- Guided tours
- Hands-on activities
Programs change regularly,
so it’s important to check availability in advance.

From what I saw,
👉 weekend sessions fill up quickly.
If you’re planning a visit,
booking ahead is definitely worth it.
📚 My Experience: Picture Book Program
We joined a session called
“Play with Picture Books.”
On March 21, the program was led by author Jung Ho-seon.
The session focused on train-themed books
and was designed to encourage participation.
Even my 40-month-old stayed engaged—
which, to be honest, doesn’t always happen.
At one point,
all the kids were shouting train sounds together,
and the atmosphere felt very natural and fun.
Later at home,
my child kept talking about it.
That’s usually how I can tell
whether something was truly enjoyable or not.
🧸 Kids Play Area
After the session,
we spent some time in the kids’ play area.
It’s not a huge space,
but it works well for letting kids move around and relax.
What I personally liked was
how easily the children started playing together.
For parents,
that kind of moment makes a big difference.
🎖️ Guided Tour (Optional)
We also joined a guided explanation session
led by a retired naval officer.
It included:
- Ship structure explanations
- Real-life naval experiences
- Military-related stories
The content was interesting,
but likely better suited for older kids.
That said,
my older child—who loves anything military—
was fully focused the entire time.
So this really depends on your child’s interests.
👍 Final Thoughts
Overall, Seoul Battleship Park offers:
- A mix of indoor and outdoor experiences
- Educational and hands-on activities
- Affordable pricing
It’s not overly crowded or overly commercial,
which actually makes it more enjoyable.
👉 If you’re looking for a kid-friendly place in Seoul,
this is definitely worth considering.
🌿 Who Should Visit?
